Guadalajara, Mexico

14 October 2011

We're taking a test day in this great city. The rain has stopped and we have blue sky.

The veneer on an incisor broke up yesterday chewing on a Good & Plenty (same as in the U.S.), a fresh one at that. Went to a 24 Hour Dental Clinic near the hotel at 08:30 and they had a temporary patch made in 45 minuets, all by hand. $27 U.S. Beautiful work. I can see why folks come to Mexico for dental work.

A lot of sirens and so on in front of the hotel this morning and along came 'the flame' to start the Pan American Games.

Did the museum tours for the rest of the day. This painting by Orozco is impressive. As the guide below explained, when you walk across the front of the painting the fist follows you. This means that Don Miguel Hidalgo gave peace to all of Mexico. He asked where we were from and I said Reno. He responded 'Carson'. Claims to know all fifty. His name tag days he speaks eight languages.

They celebrate the departed on the 1st. and 2nd. of November so art like the picture below is all over town.

Tomorrow we'll be back on the road, probably to Toluca on Mex. 15 instead of going to Queretaro which it more to the north. We want to avoid Mexico City with its odd/even driving days, plus the terrible air pollution.

We don't miss the rain and fog.
