Iquique to Antofagasta, Chile

Left this morning at 08:30 and for a change the GPS got us out of town and on course.

Yet another internal checkpoint. They checked our Aduanas to make sure the bikes were in the country legally and waived us through.

We ended up having to drop down from the PanAmerican to the coastal highway as we'd have run out of gas. Here you can go a couple of hundred miles between gas stations. And I was reminded by someone that there are three unused gas cans on the bike. (I filled one.)

The last 120 miles of the day we continued down the coast. Windy of course.

The view from our hotel.

The great news is that I found a 150/70/17 tire at the Yamaha dealer. It's a Chinese tire and only $190 so it'll be interesting to see how it holds up. I'll be there at 09:30 tomorrow when they open and have the tire installed.

By the way, for the motorcycle folks, the rear Heidenau K76 lasted 9,140 miles. And that's with a bike that's loaded to it's max. I'd say that the tire has another 1,000 miles on it but it was making Sara nervous.

We got here about 16:15 and spent 45 minutes finding a hotel. Tried online last night with all the hotel sites but no luck. So we just worked hotel row and found two rooms at the Diego de Almagro Hotel.

Went and sat on the beach to send the SPOT 'I'm OK' message and saw this homeless guy bedded down with his five dogs. Some things are the same where ever you are.
