Panama City

Today we tried to get to the airport to start working on shipping the bikes. Because today is their 4th of July the city is basically shut down and many of the streets leading to the airport are closed. After two hours in an non-air-conditioned cab, with a driver they said we could trust we gave up. We'll try again tomorrow but it's a holiday too.... It's truly amazing anything gets done in this part of the world as there is no apparent work ethic.

Passing through downtown we did see some pretty neat buildings. This is the most unusual.

The day brightener was finding a fancy waffle shop at the mall. The mall here is two to three times the size of the Mall of America, in Bloomington, MN. Folks, we're kidding ourselves about the rest of the world. All you have to do is go to China, Singapore, Panama and you'll see that we're slipping further and further behind.

Apple warning. A couple of years ago in a fit of frustration with all my PCs I went to the dark side. Many popular business applications won't run on a Mac and if they do they're five years behind the PC world. Garmin, the GPS leader has a sorry Mac program. So, thinking I'd beat the system I bought a MacBook Air for three times the cost of a PC. I'm stuck with a total piece of junk software wise as there are problems with Lion, their new operating system.

Of course outside the U.S. where folks won't fall for the jacked up Apple prices, PC support is everywhere. Apple doesn't exist. So when I found a 'Mac' Store at the mall I thought my problems were solved. It's not really an Apple store like in the U.S. but they tried to help. With their high speed Wi-Fi the download time for Lion, from Apple in the U.S. is 778 hours and 8 minutes.

FOLKS, IF YOU'RE GOING TO TRAVEL THE WORLD STICK WITH THE PC, IT'S WHAT THE WORLD USES AND THERE IS SERVICE AND SUPPORT IN THE SMALLEST VILLAGES. TRULY THERE IS. STAY CLEAR OF THE APPLE MARKETING BS AND HYPE AND YOUR TRAVEL WILL BE MUCH LESS STRESSFUL. That said, the iPhone 4, used only in the Wi-Fi mode to avoid paying a several thousand dlsr s month phone bill to AT&T, has been a life saver.
